8. Marts

Today is the international day of women! And I can already now say, it's very different here compared to Denmark, or at least as I know. I have been rather shocked as a feminist, when I found out how they celebrate it here. Brazil is a machinist country as you might know. I'm actually starting to get used to it, though it's difficult, then it's just one of the culture differences. I realized I can't do so much about the old norms. Not even when it effects me. I'm now used to men seeing me more as sex object than a equal (there is exception off course, and i'm dating one of them). I'm used to explain why I don't want to hook up with guys, and how I sometimes have to fight myself out at parties which I go to alone with my female friends. I get it, the majority of Brazilian guys are machunist. But I reached my limits when I saw an advertisement, with a woman carrying a bunch of shopping bags in her hand, saying:

>>come shopping in "shopping da ilha" and spoil yourself marts 8 on womens day<<

First I just thought they made another commercial day, like valentines day, until I payed attention to the date. Then I was just one big question mark and asked my host parents what this was about. Whereafter my host father answers that it's normal to give presents and flowers this day. And how it was only ugly feminist who made a parade...

After this have I been asked if I got any presents yet, seen facebook statuses from boys where it says "happy day all of my princesses" and so on. Not because I don't appreciate it. Its a really a nice thought and nice to see we are appreciated, but I'm just shocked and disappointed on how they made this day a commercial day and don't take the debate up. Especially when in it's a macho country as Brazil, where they should fight even more.

But all in all
Happy Marts 8 to all my sisters out there

Holdiday and school (Christmas)

Christmas was a kind of weird time for me. I kind of realized how many christmas traditions we actually have in Denmark and was very different here in Brazil.

My family had made this game called "invisible friend" where we got a name and then we should only buy a present for that person. I got my uncle and it was quite an adventure to buy that present. His wife is pregnant with a little boy so my thought was "i'm gonna get matching clothes for son and father". But the woman in one of the stores misunderstood this when I tried to explain this. Because she asked the size of the baby, and me who didn't remember the portuguese word for stomach started to point at my own, which make come to conclusion that I was the pregnant one... Then I tried to explain that I was not pregnant because I'm only 16 but she just came with the "oh.. But I got pregnant when i was 15". I didn't really know what to answer her, I just went out of the store in silence without any present (I bought it another place).

I started my Christmas day going to the beach with my family. It's funny to go to the sea December 24 knowing your friends in Denmark are freezing :P After I skyped with my danish family when we came home, who told that they will come to Brazil to visit me (they are coming tomorrow :P) and I got so happy, I really missed them and it was kind of weird because my german brother's mum and dad was there to visit us. Then I got ready and my family (brazilian) was coming to have dinner at our house. I think there came 20 people who ate from our beautiful buffet with turkey, saukraut, fruit, cake etc.
We gave our presents to our invisible friend and then we danced around the tree as i gesture to me. I never tried/seen something this weird and funny. They literally started to DANCE around the tree, until I stopped it and tried to teach them "nu det jul igen" while I was running through the whole house with only the youngest members of the family. Kkkkkk.

I woke up the next day with present's under the christmas tree, in our shoes we put under the night before, from Santa Claus :D

Holiday and school (Rio de Janeiro)

I got one day home after Fortaleza, which i spend with my two friends Gustavo and Guilherme, and then I was heading for Rio de Janeiro. Rio is a beautiful even if it's raining and you live in a not so good hotel. But sitting on Copacabana in the evening and just see the whole city lighten up, is not easy to describe. I really liked the harmony of nature and city it has and there was so many interesting people in that city. And off course i had a lot of fun with the exchange students! I always try to be as much with brazilians etc. but it's always nice just to have a break with people you share culture and almost language with :D

Pão Acucar

Super fedt initiative. Det var en danse gruppe for folk med down syndrom fyldt med energi :D

Klokken 3-4 om morgen (natten) i lufthavnen på vej hjem

Holiday and school (fortaleza)

Heres a "little" about what i've been doing the past two month where i've been on christmas vacation (for almost two month, i'm not complaning). It have been a little difficult for me in the vacation, because the christmas in Denmark is in many ways more traditional, so I have been missing home + I didn't see my friends sooo much because of travelling. But i survived, and got to see A LOT of Brazil.

The first trip I took was to Fortaleza to a big waterpark called "Beach Park". My dad, uncle, Karsten and I took the car and drove in 12 hours to get there. It was an amazing drive. It was like a whole new world when you came outside of the city, and it was here I really saw why Brazil is still a 3' world country. It was also interesting to see the different nature we drove through.
I also really liked Fortaleza and beachpark, though I got red as lobster. The beach was beautiful with turquoise water, we were out driving on rally and having fun in the waterpark.

View from my room, on a hotel me and the guys where sleeping at before my mum and the children came, so we could live in the right hotel. Got my own room because I was the only girl. Not bad, not bad at all!

Ved det hotel vi boede på i "beach park"

Jeg ved ikke rigtig hvad arkitekten har tænkt på....

Feliz dia de ávore de natal

Today is December 1'st. It doesn't feel like it at all. The sun is shining, i'm sweating because i'm to lazy to put on the air-con and I had some plans about going to the beach :P

In Denmark would December 1'st mean lighting the calender candle, put on a big sweater and also celebrate 1'st of advent (this year), you know it.

In Brazil December 1'st is Christmas tree day where they have a lunch and "celebrate" the Christmas tree they put up and decorated the day before.

We don't have the lunch and celebrate this day in my family, but we did decorate the tree yesterday, and it's beautiful. Though it's not the same as going out cutting a tree myself (with family of course). I'm kind of gonna miss having a real tree instead of plastic :P

P.s I also got my first wax yesterday, so now i'm ready for all the beach cities i'm travelling to in the vacation. Which begins on Wednesday :D

I really don't know what happened with this picture.. It got all weird in the colors :(

Oktober-November

The time just disappeared. I have been thinking of writing on the blog so many times, but I never got to do it. And now it's already christmas.. Meu deus.

Oktober and november had a lot of things. Birthdays, sickness, hospital, travelling, school, parties, new friends and a lot of good times with my "old" friends. I also began having a little bit homesickness through these months, it comes time to time, but it's not bad at all.

Carolina

Meal after 12 km hiking in the baking sun

It was at this waterfall i tried the most terrifying thing ever, and where I got the biggest adrenalin kick!  Me and two girls went behind the waterfall (it was so beautiful) and then me and one of them began looking down and joked about how tempting it was to jump, but still it would be too dangerous because of pressure (strømmen) and stones. So we just kept walking. After some time we looked down again. But this time we didn't joke, we began looking for a place with less stones and pressure, and then we jumped. As soon as i touched the water it took me down. I have never been so scared to die, and never fighted so much to keep me up and to swim away. But I did it, and I survived and I was high on adrenalin after! VIDA LOKA!!! :D
p.s our tour guide told us after that most of the people who do that comes out dead.

Small gifts from admires :P
This note was sent to me while i was sitting on a bar, by the waitress from two random guys. It says "you is very beautiful me add in facebook", "we are going to a concert in centro" "number of the guy with the blue shirt" and "obs = you can call the snake"

I got the palm rose from one of my friends a day on the beach.
